Abstract

The study on the characteristics of functional polycentricity of urban regions based on functional contacts is the inevitable requirement from the global integration and informationization development. Carrying on researches on the functional polycentricity of PRD urban region is crucial in theory and practice. By using social network method, this paper taking the inflow and outflow of each bus station as the passenger traffic flow to analyze the characteristics of the network of passenger traffic flow, measures the level of functional polycentricity of PRD. The results indicate that the network of passenger traffic flow of PRD contains certain characteristics, such as the scale effect in quantity, the scale effect in geographical space, the distance effect,the orientation and structure effect. Based on the quantitative measurement, the research shows that the level of functional polycentricity of PRD is relative high, which shows significant centrifugal effect. The research also finds that the functional polycentricity of PRD is scale sensitive, presents the change in certain direction, contains regional difference,and gets the same variation tendency in different functional network.
