REFLECTION ON THE DEVELOPMENT IN RECREATIONAL AREAS AROUND LAKES——A CASE STUDY OF AREAS AROUND TAI LAKE IN JIANGSU PROVINCE

Lakes are important resources of tourism in China. Tourism development for lakes usually consists tourism on lakes andtourism around lakes.For long times tourism studies around lakes in a whole are fairly few, but the importance of these areas ismore prominent now. This article defines all these areas as recreational areas around lakes, which have recreational functions anddiffer from the water areas. It covers the whole lake bank and the islands in the lake. The exploitation of those areas are usuallyin two ways: one is that the facilities and infrastructure are mainly provided for tourist's sightseeing and entertainment; The otheris to establish the vocational resort and make the integrated exploitation. This way is mainly for the tourists who would stay thearea for more than 1day. The recreational areas around lakes generally confront the same problems when being exploited. Thoseproblems include lacking of planning and unified image, repeated constructing, destroying environment etc. This article puts for-ward the basic principles in the solution of those problems. They are integrated developing, diversifying products, combining,sustainable developing. According to these principles the example of Lake was provided. On the premise of named Tai LakeTourism products it made the study in four organic parts, respectively as industry positioning, image identity, tourism gover-nance and sustainable development strategies. Through those a new paradigm for developing recreational areas around lakes areproduced.
