Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Economic Region is the fastest economic development area in Hunan province as well as the region where the land is taken the most advantage. At present, it is developed to be the core of economic growth and expected to drive the economic development of Hunan province and the provinces rounded it. So researching the strategy and key-points of land resource utilization in this region will give far-reaching significance to the development of all the region and Hunan province. The population density of Chansha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Economic Region is the highest of Hunan, so there is the acutest contradiction between the supply and demand of land in Hunan province. The distinguishing characteristics of land use in this region are as follows:①There are many land use categories in this region.(There are about 8 first-class categories and 42 second-class categories of land use). The cultivated fields and construction land have taken the greatest share. ② The degree of land use is high and the effect of land use is remarkable. The economic density of this region is the highest in the whole Hunan province, the output per unit of farmland, vegetable plot and frostory land in this region is also great according to the average level in Hunan province . ③The land use is spatially unbalanced, it is distributed according to the circular form and the urban constructed area is the core. ④ The temporal change of land use is remarkable and the change of land use structure is quick. The agricultural land is turning uninterruptedly into construction land. The unutilized land is opened up continuously. Generally speaking, there are problems as following in land use in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Economic Region: ① The degree of land use is still lower and there is great gap between this region and the most developed region of China in economic output per square kilometer. ② The structure of land use is not very rational, which is the direct reflection of the unrational construction of industry and productive force distribution. ③ The construction land increase blindly and occupy much of the high quality cultived land. ④ The land quality degrades seriously. In order to develop land resources rationally and to meet the need of social and economic growth, the following measures should be taken: ① formulating current land use principles with overall consideration; ② raising land use efficiency with intensive management; ③ optimizing land use structure and. ④Strengthening the protection of land resource.
