BASIC-NONBASIC ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES OF CITY LOGISTICS INDUSTRY:A CASE STUDY OF GUANGZHOU
运用经济基础理论和区位商法，识别并测度广州各行业及物流业各部门的基础与非基础经济活动，发现物流业基础活动比例最高，并据此将物流业分为优势、重要和衰退三类部门。
Applying the economic base theory,this paper identifies and measures the basic-nonbasic economic activities of different industries of Guangzhou city using location-quotient methodology.Results show that most activities of Guangzhou serve local demands primarily,and the tertiary industry has obvious comparative advantage,especially Logistics,information transmission,computer services and software,scientific research,technical services and geological prospecting,culture,sports and entertainment,which their LQi values in 2008 are above 1.9.The rate of basic-nonbasic activities of Logistics is the highest of all with the value of 1.25 in 2008.Then we identify the basic-nonbasic activities of different departments of Logistics,results show that they all contain basic activities.Regarding to the rate of basic-nonbasic activities,railway transport department is the most sensitive,which drops from 3.91 in 2004 to 1.72 in 2008,indicating that the department has continued to serve external demands,but a decrease in proportion;Water transport and post sector have risen rapidly,followed by road transport and handling sector;The rate of air transport sector is the largest,and very stable.Finally,combining the results with the growth rate,we can divide the Logistics industry into three categories: the first are superior departments including air transport and water transport,which have a high growth rate and a very big proportion of basic activities;The second are important departments including road transport,storage,handling and post,which have a high growth rate,and their nonbasic activities account for 50 percent or more;The third is railway transport,although it remains basic-activity-oriented,its growth rate drops markedly both in Guangzhou city and Guangdong province.
