Changing Intra-Metropolitan Spatial Distribution of Employment with Economic Restructuring in Beijing Metropolitan Area
利用北京经济普查数据，研究了2004至2008年间就业结构变化如何导致制造业、建筑业等就业减少，生产性服务业就业增加并重新集聚，形成新的就业中心和地域分工。
The spatial development of cities has been influenced by economic restructuring, and the structural changes in urban economy are the driving forces for the evolvement of the spatial pattern of economic activities in cities. This study focuses on the changing intra-metropolitan spatial distribution of employment with economic restructuring in the Beijing metropolitan area. Based on the analysis using the economic census data of Beijing, we find the employment structure of the Beijing metropolitan area has changed evidently from 2004 to 2008, with the decrease of employment shares in manufacturing, construction and consumer services sectors, while the increase of employment shares in producer services sectors. Meanwhile, the spatial distributions of employment in the sectors of which the employment shares have changed greatly have also shifted dramatically. Especially the spatial distributions of producer services employment have changed greatly with evident geographical shift and reconcentration, which leads to the reorganization of the spatial economic pattern in the Beijing metropolitan area. On the one hand, new urban employment centers emerged where the producer services sectors grew rapidly, which has changed the spatial structure of the Beijing metropolitan area. On the other hand, producer services employment has spatially shifted and reconcentrated into distinct locations, which leads to the specialized territorial divisions of labor in the Beijing metropolitan area.
