Energy is one of the key factors influencing the economic development in China In terms of per capita energy consumption level, energy use efficiency and energy consumption forms, China lags much behind developed countries. It is necessary, through rational utilization of both domestic and foreign resources, change as soon as possible the existing energy structure dominated by coal untic now. All large regions should, obeying the law of market economy and based on the specific circumstances and characteristics of their regional economy and energy supply-demand balance, work out different regional energy-economy strategy. This paper attempts to analyze the contemporary issues in China's energy development and the way to optimize energy consumption structure and to put forward guidelines of energy strategy for China's seven macro-regions.
