A Model of Axial Urban Spatio-temporal Dynamics——A Case Study in Dongguan,in Guangdong Province

This paper observes and evaluates the urban spatio-temporal dynamics based on remote sensing and GIS in Dongguan which is one of the fastest industrializing cities in China.A quantitative measurement of urban expansion along axial direction was developed from the view of landscape ecology in this paper.A set of spatial metrics were used to examine the process between diffusion and coalescence along axial direction.Through changes of values in these metrics,the wave-like characteristics of urban expansion along main roads were revealed in Dongguan.Regularities in the spatio-temporal pattern of urban growth were detected including the oscillations between diffusion process and coalescence process,and the changes between the axial expansion and the axial coalescence.
