Home-Work Separation in the Context of Institutional and Spatial Transformation in Urban China:Evidence from Beijing Household Survey Data
Based on data from a 2007 household survey in Beijing, this paper explores the current status of home-work separation of Beijing residents, measured by straight-line distance between job and residential locations,i.e.job-housing distance. We focus on comparing job-housing distance across different types of communities, types of property rights, and time periods when residential relocation happened,in attempt to shed light on possible institutional and structural forces underlying home-work relationships in transitional urban China.
