Western Theories in Agglomeration-based Regional Economic Development and its Implications for China

Globalization leads to the resurgence of regional economies that were viewed by conventional wisdom from the perspectives of transaction cost,new institutionalism and innovation system.None of them,however,has put forth a general and dynamic framework in which regional economies characterized by clustering and innovation can be deciphered.By focusing on the territory-based interdependence among actors and the ensuing collective action,the rise of evolutionary economics indicates the turn of regional economic studies from exogenous inputs or institutional borrowing to endogenous social culture and innovation incubation.That has great significance for China's strategies of regional economic development.
