Migrant Housing during Rapid Urbanization in China: Typology and Assessment
基于三个省份的调查，将中国快速城镇化中大量移民的住房分为四种类型，并评估每种类型，最后提出政策建议。
This paper based on survey of three provinces first categorizes housing types for massive migrants during rapid urbanization in China.It finds four major housing types.They are:(1) dormitories by firms in their manufacturing sites;(2) concentrated rental housings by local governments or rural collective communes for migrants;(3) rental units by rural peasants in suburbs;and(4) rental units in central areas.In order to capture market demand,many rural peasants commit themselves into redevelopment,which often leads to Chinese style of informal settlement.Informal settlement development usually is happen in collectively owned rural land even though they may have been engulfed into urban cores during the rapid urbanization.The paper then conducts assessments of each housing type and wraps up with policy/planning recommendations.
