Research on the Level and Spatial Pattern of Financial Agglomeration on Central Cities in China
Financial industry is the core of modern economy and has the trend of spatial agglomeration Based on the data of 286 central cities in 2005 and 2010 and the factor-analysis method, this paper investigated the level and spatial pattern of financial agglomeration on central cities in mainland China. We reduced ten factors measuring financial agglomeration level of each central city into three factors:financial agglomeration scale, agglomeration quality and agglomeration activity. We found that the central cities' factor score could best describe the financial agglomeration level;the city's types of financial agglomeration could be divided into five classes:national financial center,sub-national financial center, regional financial center, provincial financial center and local financial center. We also found that the financial agglomeration level of the Yangtze River Delta,Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, and Pearl River Delta were higher, and Shanghai,Beijing,Tianjin,Guangzhou and Shenzhen were the national financial agglomeration service center;the financial agglomeration level had strong relevance with city's economic and population scale, the megacities with the population of more than 2 million were the centers of national financial activities, the capital city and / or deputy center city was the provincial financial agglomeration center;there was the spatial spreading trend of financial activities from the national financial centers to the neighboring areas, the central and the near western regions.
