Taking Citigroup for example, this paper analyzes the impact of the current financial crisis on cross-border banks. The results show that:At first, the financial crisis made Citigroup capital reduction, total assets shrinkage and stock price volatility. Then, it forced Citigroup to reduce the organizational level with large-scale layoffs all over the world. At the same time the financial crisis forced Citigroup to stop its original expanding strategy, contract some markets with at high cost and high risk. though,Citigroup still expand in some countries and regions such as Singapore, China, the Philippines etc. most of which are emerging market areas, having long-term strategic position. The Citigroup's expansion reflects that the ultimate goal pursued by the cross-border bank through adjusting its global spatial distribution is to obtain the excess profits. Inspiration from the analysis: the banks of our country should cautiously treat the diversified business strategy, and implement the globalization strategy without losing the chance.
