Regional Economic Agglomeration,Economic Growth and Income Gap
利用县级工业企业数据，分析中国区域经济集聚的成因及其对地方经济发展和收入差距的影响，发现寻租行为驱动的集聚阻碍经济发展并扩大贫富差距。
To analyze the cause to China's regional economic agglomeration and to weigh its influence upon local economy development and income gap,we use the data of industrial firms at county level and do an empirical analysis. The results show that in areas where there are more rent-seeking behaviors,the local economy is relatively more concentrated to few companies who contribute to the large share of local economy.When we further investigate the role of resource endowment in local economic agglomeration,it is found that plentiful resource induces more rent seeking and leads to the more concentrated economy.Although economic agglomeration may help lower transaction cost and relieve corporate financing constraint,however,as China's regional economic agglomeration is directly driven by rent-seeking,it nevertheless blocks local economy development.Finally,economic agglomeration widens the rich-poor gap by making only few people wealthy but reducing the competitive welfare of major people.
