Based on the judgment sampling, the paper selectes 1156 temporarily poverty peasant households from poor areas of 15 provinces in China, and investigates their credit demand and behavior. Also this paper examines the decisive factors of credit demand, formal and non-formal credit behavior with Probit model. The survey shows that poor farmers have credit demand universally, and its primary features are short or medium term and small quantity. But the proportion of them who have credit behavior is very low and the number of them who have got loans from regular financial institutions is less. The satisfaction rate of credit demand is extremely low. Therefore, the empirical analysis conclusions are as follows:Land acreage of family, per capital annual income of family, the value of fixed assets, the proportion of agricultural production and education expenditure have significant effect on the poor farmers' credit demand. But only land acreage of family and the proportion of agricultural production expenditure have an important influence on the poor farmers' formal credit behavior.Land acreage of family, the value of fixed assets and the proportion of agricultural production are important influencing factors of the non-formal credit behavior of poor farmers.
