This paper starts to analyze significant changes including city development goal,key projects,social environment,and energy saving and carbon emission reduction,which are encountered by the current development of Urumqi city.A number of global and domestic trends are listed which should be considered in the process of Urumqi's master plan revision.In the end,the paper stresses on big issues,such as urban centre optimization,should be answered by the master plan,and issues related to proposed new towns in Urumqi.
