Sectoral Difference in Carbon Emission of Industrial Energy Consumption:A Case Study of Henan Province

Abstract

By analyzing the sectoral difference in carbon emission of industrial energy consumption during 1999-2010 in Henan province,we have found that:(1) The total amount of industrial direct carbon emission showed a gradual increase,and did not achieve decoupling with economic development;(2) The total amount of direct carbon emission of energy consumption in mining industry increased annually,and has become an important driver of the rapid increase in industrial direct carbon emission,on the contrary,the total amount of direct carbon emission in manufacturing sector and the production and distribution of electricity,gas and water was slowing down;(3) Direct carbon emission was significantly different among various industrial sectors,which can be accordingly divided into four types:high-carbon sectors with high total amount of direct carbon emission and direct carbon intensity,medium-carbon sectors with high total amount of direct carbon emission and low direct carbon intensity,low-carbon sectors with low total amount of direct carbon emission and direct carbon intensity,and carbon emission sensitive sectors with low total amount of direct carbon emission and high direct carbon intensity.Most sectors with development advantages in Henan Province were high-carbon sectors.(4)Based on Input-output Model,we calculated the indirect carbon emission of the industrial sectors.Carbon emissions reduction policies need to focus on the impact of indirect carbon emission.(5)With reference to the carbon emission difference of various industrial sectors,it is necessary to make sector-specific and sector-different emission reduction policies,and to coordinate the relationship between industrialization and energy consumption.
