Does Industrial Agglomeration Widen Regional Income Disparity?——Evidence from Chinese Manufacture Industries
基于1999-2008年中国制造业数据，构建计量模型分析产业集聚及其与制度变量的交互项对地区收入差距的影响，发现提高集聚水平会缩小全国和东部地区收入差距，但扩大中西部地区差距。
This paper builds an econometric model to explore how the industrial agglomeration and its interaction terms with institutional variables affect China's regional income disparity.This is done by controlling the institutional variables which reflect China's openness and marketization level based on the Chinese manufacturing industry's data from 1999 to 2008. Three regions and the whole country are utilized to build the model.The empirical result shows that the interaction terms exert greater influence on regional income disparity than the institutional variable itself.Improving the level of agglomeration will narrow the income disparity of the whole country and the east area and at the same time widening the income disparity of the middle and west areas.
