Neoliberalism and State Spatiality: Reflection and Implications
基于经济地理学文献,回顾新自由主义的兴起,指出其并非国家消亡,而是重塑了国家空间性,表现为尺度重组、弹性边界和网络化空间,最后强调再规制的重要性。
The economic crisis in 2008 has ushered the global political economies into an era of post-neoliberalism.However,this does not sentence neoliberalism to death.Based on the latest literature in the domain of economic geography, the paper first revisited the rise of neoliberalism and pointed out the differences and similarities between neoliberalism and other ideologies in different stages of capitalist development. There are three crucial components in understanding the neoliberalism: ① neoliberalism does not mean the demise of nation-state;② the role of government is of great significance rather than subsides;③ neoliberalism varies by different geo-political contexts.Furthermore, neoliberalism creates new state spatiality in governance restructuring. It is featured by rescaling, flexible boundaries and networked space. The paper ends with a reassertion of reregulation, due to the inherent deficiencies and the failures of neoliberalism. It is important to restructure contemporary socio-spatial relationships considering not only the global responsibility, but also a sustainable sociospatial redistributive mechanism.
