THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TOWN IN LONDON METROPOLITAN AREA AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA
通过分析伦敦大都市区新城的概念、特征、功能及引发的问题，探讨其对中国大城市新城建设的启示。
Due to large size of urban population,many urban problems are caused in the large built-up areas in the world,thus many countries try to alleviate urban problems and develop the proper pattern of regional land use,though building some new towns around the large built-up area.The Unite Kingdom is one of the countries who early finished the process of urbanization and industrialization.This country owns the advanced idea of urban development,and rich practical and theoretical experiences of new town.Forinstance,garden city and new town have already developed more than 100 years orclose 100 years.Though examining the development of new town concept,this article focuses on analyzing of the characteristics and functions of new town,and the problems or disputation caused by new towns in London Metropolitan Area.Then,this paper simply discusses the characteristics of new town planning in our country.The aim of this paper is to provide some implications from the experience of new town development in London Metropolitan Area,for the development of new towns in large cities in ourcountry.
