The Differences Between Economic Geography and Regional Economics:New Perspectives
从研究构成、研究内容和哲学思维三个角度,分析了经济地理学与区域经济学的差异,帮助厘清两学科的本质区别,促进相互学习与发展。
Economic geography and regional economics have similar targets and borrow concepts and theories of each others, which make their particularity gradually blurred. Therefore, based on the existing research, this paper analyzes their differences from perspectives of research components, research content and philosophical thinking. From research components perspective, the research of economic geography and regional economics can be divided into the unique part of economic geography(regional sustainable development),the unique part of regional economics(regional specialization and industrial agglomeration) and the common parts of two subjects(industrial location theory, agricultural location theory, the interaction between economic spaces). From research content perspective, economic geography studies the relations between different geographical layers, and focuses on the relation between human economic activities and geographical environment and the position of Human economic activities on the earth surface. In philosophical thinking, economic geography primarily applies induction, and emphasizes the harmony between human and geographical environment, while regional economics gives priority to the deduction and mathematical logic, and emphasizes the optimization of economic outcome. The above analysis helps clarify the essential differences between the two subjects, and which in turn may encourage the development of the two disciplines by mutual learning.
