THE RESEARCH FOR THE PROTECT AND DEVELOPMENT OF LHASA CITY IDENTITY BASED ON NEW REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY
以拉萨为例，运用新区域地理学方法分析城市身份的构成要素（地方、主体、制度），探讨快速城市化与全球化背景下城市身份保护面临的挑战，指出人工塑造城市身份并非有效途径。
With the background of rapid urbanization in China, the protection and development of city identity has became one of the main topics most cities faced. The universality, the severity and the urgency of this topic have been more emphasized on especially when the globalization wave appears. This paper uses a unique city-Lhasa as an example ,firstly summarizes the six city identities of Lhasa. And then analyzes the factors which contain place,agent, system under the research methods of New Regional Geography .At last , the paper studies the challenges Lhasa have faced in protecting the city identity. The thesis argues it is not an effective way that lots of cities have emphasized on shaping city identity artificially. City identity is closely related to the inherent history and culture foundations of place. The intra-regional agent is not only shaping the region, but also becoming one part of the region continuously. And the system from external elements are also promoting and affecting the development of city identity in this process.
