Tourism plays a leading role in the “vacation economy. It has been widely considered as a breaking point for developing new regional economic advantages. Recent developments in the excavation of the site and remains of the palace and royal garden of the nanyue kingdom which was recognized as one of the ten major archaeological discoveries in China in 1999. Triggered the needs for revisiting the strategies on utilizing Guangzhou's ancient tourist resources. This paper reiterates the key roles of ancient tourist resources in the formation of urban cultural characteristics. It presents an analysis on the current roles, contributions, and potentials of ancient tourist sites in Guangzhou's vacation economy, on that basis, the paper outlines a set of new strategies and associated, policies for exploration Guangzhou's ancient tourist resources.
