Taking the historic town of Pingyao as an example, the article discusses the sustainable development mechanism and strategies of historic towns from the cutural and economic aspects. The essay holds that in order to realize the favorable circle of conservation and development, the capital for conservation of the city's historic and cutural traditions should be raised through the market when the government doesn't have adequate financial resources for the conservation.
