RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PUBLIC SCIENTIFIC & TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES AND REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA

With economic globalization,the modern economy is now relying more and more on knowledge,information,and technology.Many countries are starting to construct innovation systems.The construction of innovation regions is an important part of the system.We use catastrophe progression methods to create a measure of economic development from regional Gross Domestic Product(GDP),year-end population,regional GDP per-capita,and the spatial density of regional GDP.Separately,we quantify regional science and technology resources.We then study the relation between regional economies and their science and technology resources.There is no obvious linear relation between them.There is need for further research to support informed decisions about how scientific investments may be made to best benefit regional economies.
