AN HETEROGENEOUS PANEL STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH FOR PROVINCES IN CHINA
利用1999-2007年中国31个省份的面板数据，采用异质性面板协整方法，发现国内旅游和入境旅游均显著促进经济增长，且入境旅游作用更强；同时经济增长也单向促进了旅游业发展。
In this paper,the panel data of inbound tourism arrivals,international tourism(foreign exchange) revenue,domestic tourist arrivals and domestic tourism revenue of 31 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities in mainland China in 1999-2007 was used as four indicators for measure of the level of tourism development,and use,heterogeneous panel cointegration method was used to examine the relationship between provincial tourism development and economic growth in mainland China.Results show that,both the development of domestic tourism and inbound tourism have a significant positive effect on the economic growth of the country and all provinces across,among which inbound tourism has a more significant role in promoting economic growth;meanwhile,there is an unidirectional causality from economic growth to receiving tourist arrivals,international tourism(foreign exchange) revenue and domestic tourism revenue in the long run,which indicates that the economic growth also promoted the development of inbound tourism and domestic tourism.
