THE RESEARCH AGENDA ON LOCAL CLUSTERS OF ENTERPRISES IN CHINA
介绍地方企业集群的研究主题，旨在引起中国经济地理学者关注，探讨全球化时代地方集群面临的新挑战。
In a global economy, the competitive advantage of nations can not be based on global enterprises alone. This advantage is also built on clusters of enterprises that are well-rooted in specific territories. Some of these territories have had considerable commercial success, thanks to factors such as a high concentration and mobility of human resources, quick circulation of information and transmission of specific know-how. These territories are open to the outside world and represent an opportunity to strengthen national presence in international exchanges. This articulation between the inner strength of local productive systems and competition at an international level is now high on public policy agendas. The paper introduces the research topic briefly. It is to raise awareness among Chinese economic geographers to join the research work on local clusters and to discuss the new challenges that local districts have to face in the globalization era.
