Study on Spatial Distribution and Hierarchical System of Discharge Ports for Foreign Trade of Guangzhou Port

The spatial distribution and hierarchical system of the discharge ports for foreign trade serves as a representation of international economic relations between ports. The discharge ports for foreign trade of Guangzhou Port are characterized by unbalanced spatial distribution. According to the Zipf index, the hierarchical system of the discharge ports for foreign trade can be divided into different types. The distribution pattern of the discharge ports for foreign trade of Guangzhou Port belongs to the type of extremely strong rank-size, which is characterized by obvious unbalanced distribution. However, the degree of unbalance appears to decrease, leading to the distribution pattern turning into the type of strong rank-size. At the same time, the primacy ratio is relatively high, suggesting an obviously significant role of Hong Kong Port as the primary discharge port in the development of the transportation of foreign trade of Guangzhou Port. The low rank-size discharge ports have developed rapidly, while the middle rank-size ones develop relatively slowly. This uneven development leads to the rise of the primacy ratio and the decline of the Zipf index of the discharge ports for foreign trade of Guangzhou Port.
