Community geographical phenomena in city edge social areas and the research of the rules in space differentiation and formation have always been the basic research problems for the academia of international urban geography. Since the 1970s, the academia in western advanced countries has done much theoretical research in city edge social areas from the perspectives of economy, land, and social space, and the theories have already been applied in practice. China's domestic academia also has done much empirical study in the aspects of social space evolvement and residential mobility in city edge areas. Whereas, most big city edge social areas are facing multiple challenges in ecology, equity, economy, transportation, and social pressure with China's rapid urbanization. So, it is of great necessity to research the community development in big city edge social areas from a pluralistic perspective. The present thesis aims at constructuring a diversified, inclusive, and full-choice spatial community development theory in city edge social areas by researching the practical development of Xi'an city edge social areas from a pluralistic angle.
