Abstract

Energy efficiency is one of the key determinants of green economic growth,while technological environment is a critical factor affecting energy efficiency.In order to accelerate the rise of central regions in China,it is important to understand the impact of technological environment on energy efficiency.Applying a stochastic frontier analysis model,this paper estimates the energy efficiencies of the six provinces in central region over the period 1990-2010,and explores the impacts of technological environment on energy efficiency.Empirical results show that the energy efficiencies of each province present a trend of fluctuations,the overall trend of Shanxi,Anhui,Henan,Hubei and Hunan is upward,while that of Jiangxi is downward.Moreover,government expenditure on technology and scale of high-tech industry are positively correlated with energy efficiency,while scientific and technological human resource is negatively correlated with energy efficiency.Based on the above results,policy implications are discussed in the end.
