THE AXIS OF DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY OF JIANGSU PROVINCE SINCE 1949

The changes in economy and society in Jiangsu Province is very huge during the past 60 years. The economic level regained to the highest in history during 1949-1952. The annual average GDP took up 5% in the whole country during 1952-1978 with few fluctuations, in which the traditional industry, such as textile, chemistry, machine building and building materials developed more rapidly. The annual economic growth remains to more than 10% since 1978 with the Open Policy, which stimulates the economy in Jiangsu Province keeping in the fast track of development. The total economic output ranked third, and GDP accounted for more than 10% in China, while with only 1.06% land area of that in China.Jiangsu Province put forward a clear development strategy in order to adapt the developing situation in different periods, which in turn upgraded the industrial level and optimizing the industrial structure. The economy belt and productivity axis become more and more clear based on years of development. Three economic belts, Yangtze River belt, coastal zone and the east Longhai Belt (Xuzhou-Lianyungang) belongs to the first class axis in Jiangsu Province. The Grand Canal might be the new future development axis with possibility. The paper clarifies the main axis of productivity and its potential based on the analysis of economic development in Jiangsu Province.
