The Spatial Effects of Wuhan Metropolitan Area during the Construction of Rail Rapid Transit System Including High-Speed Railways, Intercity Railways and Subways
The spatial effects problem domain which about theaxle-spokelike transport system made up of high-speed railways, intercity railways and subways in Chinese city compact district is initially discussed in this paper. The rail rapid transit system helps the reconstruction of the spatial structure of Wuhan metropolitan area, its impact on this area lies in three levels, that is, between the urban agglomerations, between the central city and the satellite cities, and the inner side of the central city. The network analyst method is applied to measure the service scopes of the rail rapid transit stations in Wuhan metropolitan area. Then the results are interpreted from the perspective of whole area, different types of stations as well as node cities according to the three levels mentioned above. It shows that the high-speed railways mainly help the connections between the Wuhan metropolitan area and other urban agglomerations, the new cities are also grow around the high-speed railway stations; the intercity railways accelerate the cooperation among the satellite cities and the central city; the subway integrates the different function districts of the central city, and stimulates the urbanization of suburb at the same time. Both the lines and stations of the rapid rail transit exert different degree influence on population agglomeration, urban construction land exploration and factor flow, the spatial effect mostly concentrated in central node cities, then seep through the transportation network according to levels to the next degree node cities and towns, the whole Wuhan metropolitan area is covered at last. And the construction of the rail rapid transit system will be helpful to keep the spatial economic pattern which characterizes both polarization and diffusion in a fairly long time.
