FROM THE SWS PRESIDENT
作者在非学术科学环境中观察到复杂学术被简化、采纳甚至挪用的现象,以女性主义学术和性别概念为例,指出性别被用作性和女性的代名词,反映了多维学术仅被部分吸收的讽刺。
WVorking in a non-academic (although scientific) environment, I have been struck by some of the ways that complex scholarship is distilled and adopted-and concepts even appropriated-by those who have not generated it themselves. The case of feminist scholarship generally, as well as the concept of gender specifically, is telling in this regard, and it highlights some of the irony of our success in changing the lexicon. For, in the world in which I work, it seems that gender has become a proxy-specifically for sex and for women. These developments reflect what happens when only limited layers of multidimensional scholarship are taken up by the general scientific and popular cultures.
