Abstract

The anxiety to succeed leads immigrants to acts extraneous to the systems of their adopted countries. This phenomenon is the subject of Pawan Dhingra’s Hyper Education: Why Good Schools, Good Grades, and Good Behavior Are Not Enough. Dhingra fundamentally focuses on the lives, hopes, and dreams of Indian American immigrants who wish to nurture success in their progeny through their involvement in extracurricular academic activities. By looking at the involvement of children and parents in academic extracurricular activities, Dhingra focuses on personal histories, racism, mental health, education, and neo-liberalism to craft this contemporary tale - one that details how immigrants perceive the world around them and then consume to meet the expectations that they set for themselves in their new homes.
