Abstract

The article presents a commentary on this special edition of “Academy of Management Journal” by two of the authors of one of the articles. The authors address each article in turn, addressing issues such as multiple organizational identities, meta-identities, the benefits of identity fluidity, identity creation, and social identity. The authors suggest that the other contributors in this issue could benefit from psychodynamic insight, that takes into account the irrationality and emotionality that exists in organizational life.
