This review defines management development as the process by which individuals learn, grow, and improve their ability to perform professional management tasks. Recent literature is reviewed using a three-partframework: management education, management training, and on-the-job experiences. Severalfundamental concerns regarding existing research are identified and discussed, and their implications forfuture research and practice in management development are described.
