In this paper, we respond to Steven Brand's criticisms of our FLQ formula for adjusting national input‐output tables to take account of interregional trade. We argue that the FLQ's cross-industry foundations are theoretically appropriate and that our approach provides a rigorous basis for testing the traditional assumption of identical regional and national technology. We provide a more detailed rationale for the role of regional size in the FLQ formula and also present a revised version of this formula. Notwithstanding Brand's criticisms, we aim to demonstrate that the FLQ remains a very useful addition to the regional analyst's tool box. FLEGG A. T. et WEBBER C. D. Pour nous, les bases interindstrielles du FLQ sont en principe appropriées et notre approche fournit une base rigoureuse pour tester la supposition classique d'une technologie régionale et nationale identiques. Nous fournissons une explication plus détaillée du rôle de la taille de la région dans la formule FLQ et présentons une version révisée de cette formule. Die Autoren treten dafu¨r ein, daß FLQs Industrie u¨berschreitende Gru¨ndungen theoretisch geeignet sind, und daß ihr Ansatz eine wissenschaftlich rigorose Basis fu¨r die Pru¨fung der traditionellen Annahme darstellt, daß Regionaltechnologie mit Technologie auf Landesebene identisch ist. Sie sorgen fu¨r eine eingehendere rationale Erkla¨rung der Rolle der Regionalgro¨ße in der FLQ Formel und legen daru¨berhinaus eine u¨berarbeitete Version dieser Formel vor. Ungeachtet Brands Kritik beabsichtigen sie, aufzuzeigen, daß die FLQ ein ho¨chst nu¨tzliches, zusa¨tzliches Gera¨t in der Ausru¨stung des Regionalanalysten bildet.
