It is my very sad duty to inform the readership of the Journal of Time Series Analysis that the Founding Editor of the Journal, Professor Maurice Priestley, passed away on Saturday, 15 June 2013, after a long illness. Professor Priestley will be hugely missed by the entire time series community. He consistently made seminal contributions to the time series literature over many decades. He can genuinely be described as one of the ‘founding fathers’ of the discipline of time series analysis. His contribution to the time series community was also immense, and the Journal of Time Series Analysis represents an enduring legacy of that contribution. Maurice Priestley was a very kind, warm and generous-spirited man, admired and respected by those of us who were lucky enough to have known him.
