Abstract

This article presents an examination of how markets function to encourage companies to behave ethically. They discuss a hypothetical situation where a company that is known to produce a low quality, dangerous tire will not succeed in turning a profit. This illustrates their point that the marketplace controls business behavior by making unethical conduct unprofitable. They note that market are not perfect at accomplishing this task and this is where the US Sentencing Guidelines come into play.
