SUMMARY In essence, convergence in the ergodic distribution of political regimes has come to be known as the End of History thesis. This essay argues that, in fact, the end of history is not imminent. The future distribution of political regimes, like that of economic income, shows signs of polarization instead. Jointly, these are significant findings for our field and deserve more attention than they currently garner.
