Abstract

The article presents a commentary on the theory of organizational democracy. The author contends that there is a range of democratic possibilities for corporate organizations. He notes that some firms employ command-and-control organizations where attempts by employees or managers to be more democratic are disparaged by owners and senior executives. The author believes that most organizations are not highly democratic. He explains that they do not have democratic systems in place for dealing with most issues of corporate governance. The author says few organizations are democratically designed communities where ownership, employment, and business processes are all aligned to create viable entities that achieve high levels of results.
