Abstract

Abstract Two omissions in the abstracts section of the volume 80, number 5, 1998 proceedings issue were reported. • The abstract for the poster “Federal Milk Market Order Reform: Using Maps for Policy Analysis” on page 1209 should have listed Paula A. Emerick (USDA) as an author, along with co‐authors William G. Francis and Barry H. Crudup. • The abstract for an organized symposium titled “Beyond Commodity‐Based Insurance: Whole‐Farm Revenue Stabilization” was erroneously omitted. It should have appeared as follows: Beyond Commodity‐Based Insurance: Whole‐Farm Revenue Stabilization. Robert Dismukes (USDAlERS), organizer and moderator; Jeffery Williams (Kansas State University), Greg Strain (Agri‐Food Canada), J. Roy Black (Michigan State University) Whole‐farm revenue stabilization through government‐supported savings or insurance‐type products has been proposed as an economic safety net for agricultural producers. Proponents point to coverage of a wide range of crop and livestock enterprises and flexibility in farm management decisions as major advantages of revenue stabilization programs over commodity‐based crop and revenue insurance. Revenue stabilization is likely to be an increasing concern in the agricultural sector as government payments under the FAIR Act decrease. The Risk Management Agency, USDA, is considering offering whole‐farm revenue insurance on a pilot basis in 1999, and revenue stabilization will be a major issue considered by the Commission on Agriculture in the Twenty‐first Century.
