To completely describe a manufacturing system, several models are usually created, each from a di � erent viewpoint. Traditionally, these models were created independently using di � erent methodologies and in di � erent environments. This approach poses many problems, for example, time-consumption, incompatibility between models, di � culties in model maintenance, di � culties in ensuring a seamless transition in the system development life cycle, etc. To overcome these problems, a comprehensive modelling methodology and its supporting software tool have been developed at Gintic. The methodology, termed IDEF*, is CIMOSAcompliant, IDEF0-based, and integrated.
