A New Distribution-Free Test for the Equality of Two Failure Rates

Let X1,…Xn and Y1,…,Ym be two independent random samples from two life distributions with absolutely continuous distribution functions F(x) and G(x), respectively. Let rF(x) and rG(x) be their respective failure rates. A new distribution-free test for testing Ho: rF(x) = rG(x) against HA: rF(x) ≤ rG(x) is proposed. The properties of the test are investigated; it possesses high efficiency for many specific alternatives belonging to HA.
