A simple deterministic model for rationing growing and fattening beef cattle in winter is described. The model is designed for a programmable calculator for use by staff of the Meat and Livestock Commission in their consultancy work on farms. The paper serves to illustrate the potential of programmable calculators in on-farm advisory work.
