This article comments on the leadership behavior of Russian managers. The author notes that there are conflicting sources of leadership behavior among Russian executives. A clear distinction exists between traditional “red” executives and the newer, more market-oriented managers. There has been some difficulty in separating leadership traits related to initiative and risk-taking from illegal and unethical behaviors. Advice is also given to Westerners seeking to do business in Russia.
