Weber on Bureaucracy: Management Consultant or Political Theorist?
Disputing the generally accepted view of Weber's essays on bureaucracy, this paper argues that these writings were not concerned with problems of organizational efficiency or effectiveness. The prevalence of such understanding is attributed to mistranslation of Weber's manuscripts. A more suitable interpretation is presented, and its ramifications are discussed.
