Spatial spillovers and labor productivity convergence in Canada
通过空间自回归模型分析加拿大各省内部及之间的劳动生产率趋同,发现跨部门溢出效应比跨省溢出更显著,忽略空间效应会低估趋同速度。
We analyze labor productivity convergence between and within Canadian provinces by incorporating a spatial lag in a standard empirical neoclassical growth model. Results point to the predominance of inter-sectoral spillover effects. Furthermore, ignoring spatial effects yields smaller convergence estimates. • Spatial autoregressive models are used to study labor productivity convergence. • They yield higher convergence estimates than standard linear regression models. • Inter-sectoral spillovers are more influential than inter-provincial spillovers. • Spatial effects ought to be modeled to specify convergence models correctly.
