Which Side Are You on? Misperceived Social Norms Towards Union Membership

ABSTRACT Young workers underestimate their peers' support for trade union membership. In a pre‐registered experiment ( N = 444), correcting this misperception increased stated joining intentions but did not change behaviour. The findings identify pluralistic ignorance as a psychological barrier to unionisation, suggesting that social norm messaging could support union recruitment among young workers.
