The purpose of this article is to analyse the strategic uses of historical narratives by foreign multinational corporations (MNCs) in a discontinuous host-country context. The article is based on a qualitative coding analysis of seven corporate histories published by foreign MNCs in Poland, followed by three interviews with their authors and publishers. Findings describe rhetorical strategies based on four narratives and identify conditions under which they were developed in each of the foreign MNCs. This paper contributes to the business history literature by extending existing models of strategic use of historical narratives to foreign MNCs and discussing the influence of the host-country context on legitimisation and cross-temporal sensemaking.
