Abstract

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a well-known method for multi-criteria decision making. It is often used to create the relative weights of various criteria or factors via pairwise comparisons. During pairwise comparison, numerical scales are used to quantify the relative importance of two criteria or factors. Different numerical scales result in different pairwise comparison matrices and thus different weights. In this article, we compare numerical scales commonly used in AHP from the perspective of their resulting weight vectors. Four evaluation indicators called output rate, repetition rate, coverage rate and balance rate are put forward for weight vectors. Then numerical scales are evaluated with these four indicators.
